The Athleticus: St Pete’s private personal training studio where coaches know your name

Anyone can hand you a workout plan. But a coach who knows your name, remembers your knee injury, and tracks your progress every single week? That’s a whole different ballgame. At The Athleticus, coaches know members’ spouses, pets, and jobs too. It’s no wonder the studio has earned 300+ five-star reviews across Google, Yelp, and Facebook.

At The Athleticus, a private, appointment-only personal training studio located at 917 49th Street South in St. Pete, getting to know you is part of the workout. This goes beyond a typical fitness experience, as it’s a personal training studio. It’s built for people who want to feel strong again, without the noise, the sales pitches, or the one-size-fits-all plans. If you’re ready to get started now, you can book a Complimentary Goal Review here.

Quality over quantity

Memberships at The Athleticus are capped at 55 people. This is done intentionally, ensuring every member gets the focus they deserve. There’s a waitlist at peak hours that proves it works. Coaches at the studio hold 4-year degrees in sports science and are full-time professionals invested in the field of exercise.

The clientele is just as varied as the goals they bring through the door: professionals, busy parents, aging adults, weekend pickleball warriors and people training around old injuries. Really, anyone who values their fitness and wants a private atmosphere with seriously qualified trainers has a place here.

Even the numbers away from the benches and racks show what the experience is like. Members at The Athleticus stay an average of 10.5 months, compared with an industry average of about 7 months. That kind of staying power speaks to the relationships the studio builds with its members, helping them stay accountable and work toward their fitness goals.

Getting to know your body before getting to work

Every body comes with a history: the tennis elbow from 2015, the desk job that rounded your shoulders, the knee that predicts the weather. Great training starts with knowing yours.

That’s the thinking behind The Athleticus’s Personal Training Assessment, which gives prospective members two full private sessions with two different coaches.

The first session focuses on how your body is built and how it moves. You’ll discuss your goals, lifestyle, training history and any lingering aches or injuries before completing an InBody 570 scan. The scan measures body composition, including muscle, body fat and water distribution.

From there, your coach will assess your mobility, posture, balance and fundamental movement patterns, including squatting, hinging, pushing and pulling. Your coach watches how each joint moves and where your body compensates. This is how they spot things like the stiff hip behind the sore knee and catch problem areas before they become injuries.

The second session gets you moving. A second coach takes you through a full workout built around the movements you did comfortably and well in Session 1. They are assessing how your body handles effort and how you recover between sets. Your coach adjusts in real time with cues, modifications, and progressions, so you feel exactly what it’s like to be coached here.

And yes, meeting two coaches is intentional. The team takes your personal training assessment very seriously, so they want to have two sets of eyes on you. And they’d like you to have an opportunity to work with two different coaches and sample their training styles. By the end of the two sessions, you’ll have experienced the studio firsthand, and you’ll know whether this is the team for you.

Recovery deserves a spot on the schedule, too

The workout is only part of the experience. The Athleticus also has a dedicated recovery room where members can unwind after training with an infrared sauna and Japanese massage chairs. This is an exclusive perk that helps members de-stress, because recovery deserves a spot on the schedule, too.

Ultimately, the studio is built around the idea that fitness should feel personal, from the first assessment to the relationships you build along the way. And before you commit to a training plan, you should feel just as confident in the people guiding you as you do in the goals you’re working toward.

“Choosing who you train with is a big decision, and it should feel like the right one,” says Olya Schaefer, owner of The Athleticus. “The assessment gives you two full sessions with our coaches, in our studio, focused entirely on you and your goals. By the end, you’ll know if we’re the team to get you there.”

The Athleticus is open Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Ready to get started? Schedule a complimentary call with a coach to talk through your goals and book your assessment. The $299 Personal Training Assessment includes two 50-minute private sessions. Learn more about the studio at theathleticus.com, and follow along on Instagram at @theathleticus.
