Acropolis Greek Taverna is coming back to Downtown St. Pete

Just over three years since closing its doors on Central, Acropolis Greek Taverna is set for a return to Downtown St. Pete. Signage has gone up announcing the Greek restaurant and bar is taking over the two-story space at 475 Central Avenue across the street from the 400 Central tower.

The location was most recently home to Concrete Jungle. It is perhaps a sign of the nature of the restaurant industry that Concrete Jungle debuted only a few months after Acropolis closed just a block away at 515 Central Avenue back in July 2023. Thirsty First replaced Acropolis two years later, and shuttered earlier this year.

There is no public timeline yet for the opening of the new Acropolis. While the sign says “coming soon,” the poster hanging on Central Avenue seems to be the only announcement Acropolis has made, with the location not yet listed online. Acropolis has five locations throughout the Tampa Bay Area, but none currently in St. Pete.

The restaurant itself is known for elevated and traditional Greek dishes, along with craft cocktails, Greek wines, ouzo, live entertainment, and a penchant for tableside flair. The sizable menu runs from the approachable and shareable (gyros, kebabs, dolmades) to impressive presentations of Greek classics like moussaka, pastitsio, and wild-caught fish.

While food and drink is the draw, Acropolis prides itself on the experience beyond the taste buds. There’s dancing, there’s plate breaking, and there’s a non-zero chance of losing an eyebrow to your meal.

“There aren’t many restaurants where the cheese arrives on fire and that’s just the appetizer,” Acropolis teases. “Consider yourself warned: Saganaki arrives at your table on fire, napkins will be everywhere, and plates won’t survive the night.”

Stay tuned for updates on the return of Acropolis to Downtown St. Pete.
