Yoga, fireworks, free green mustaches: Rowdies kick off Mental Health Awareness Month

A soccer stadium at night filled with fans

The Tampa Bay Rowdies are one of the best teams in the country on the field, and this month the local soccer club is also putting a focus on health off the field. With two home games in May – including one this weekend – the Rowdies are celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month and drawing attention to a cause affecting millions every day.

To kick things off, the club is giving out free green mustaches to fans at this Saturday’s game at 7:30 against Indy Eleven, a symbol tied to men’s mental health support, and presented by Orlando Health. Fans are encouraged to wear green to join in the celebration, and the team will be wearing its green away kit.

The organization has been outspoken about public support for the issue as men’s athletes help lead the way in breaking down the stigma associated with mental health, and mental health facts will be shared throughout the game. And what better way to boost your mood than a free fireworks show over Tampa Bay after the game? Kickoff is at 7:30 pm and tickets are available here.

Whatever happens on the field, this is a night we can confidently say everyone is a winner. That said, the Rowdies have also been absolutely on fire on the actual field. They’re the only undefeated team left in the USL this season, and their dominant run has resulted in multiple accolades for the still-young campaign. With a new head coach and a bevy of new talent, this has become one of the most exciting Rowdies seasons in years. Could they be primed for another playoff run this fall?

While Mustaches for Mental Health Night kicks off May for the Rowdies, it won’t be the last of the fun. One of their most highly anticipated annual events is back at the end of the month when they host the fan-favorite Yoga on the Pitch.

Hosted on Saturday, May 23, it’s a full day of fun that begins with morning yoga on the field at Al Lang Stadium led by local instructor Dani Schenone, followed by the game that night against Phoenix Rising FC at 7:30 pm. The cherry on top: the post-yoga social with mimosas, snacks, and other drinks. It’s the perfect start and end to a Saturday. Game tickets are included with your yoga package, all for $35. Learn more and get yours here before it fills up.

The Rowdies have plenty of fun planned as the season goes on, in addition to all the scoring and winning. There’s Pride Night, International Soccer Night, and even a Gasparilla Pirate Night. Ye be warned, it’s a good time to be a Rowdies fan.
