St. Pete Beat to Kick it with Kickstarter

St. Pete Beat to Kick it with Kickstarter

St. Pete Beat is on its way! With a hot listing on Kickstarter to generate public donations for documentary about the creative culture in St. Pete—music, art, fashion and design. Ryan Zarra, founder and curator of St. Pete Beat and Creative Loafing‘s Best Local Filmmaker Runner- up in 2011 (not to mention amateur ukulele player) has worked in film production for three years, and he is passionate about this project.

According to Zarra, “St. Pete Beat is a mid-length (35 minutes) visual portrait about the art and music subculture that is embedded and hidden within St. Pete. It is about local musicians who have stayed in St. Pete to create their dream, instead of chase it. The artists that sculpt our small city’s culture and the people that enhance our city to be more than tourists, cover bands and endless dive bar patrons… or at least try to. [St. Pete is] ranked #1 arts destination among mid-sized cities in the country, but there is more than Dali pieces here.

St. Pete idea-makers are no stranger to Kickstarter success. Making Waste, Zombie USB Keychain, Lights at Night, “Congratulations You’ve Been Selected to Win another Day on Planet Earth,” UNRB, Amber Lynn, Jun, Skyship Chronicles, and Oceana are just some of the St. Pete local projects that have reached funding goals using Kickstarter.

What’s Kickstarter? It’s a powerful force in crowd funding—anyone can post their project that they want funded, list it on Kickstarter, set a goal fundraising dollar amount and due date.  If you reach your goal amount by your goal date—SCORE! The money is yours along with anything additional you might raise. If you fall short, those who donated get to keep their cash. Simple as that.
