Outdoor movie series shows classic films under the stars in St. Pete this May

Outdoor movie series shows classic films under the stars in St. Pete this May

The ArtsXchange theater at night

The AX Outdoor Stage in the Warehouse Arts District is one of the coolest venues in town, and organizers are putting the space to excellent use with a new outdoor film series this May. The Warehouse Arts District Association (WADA) announced the American Classics Film Series, which will bring three iconic movies to the outdoor theatre this May.

For this inaugural series, WADA chose what are truly three of the all-time greats in American cinematic history, showcasing widely beloved films that changed the industry. Tickets to each show are $15 for general admission or $10 for WADA members. The ArtsXchange Campus is located 515 22nd Street S.

Seating is provided, though guests are welcome to bring their blankets, chairs, and sundries, and make themselves at home in the beautiful outdoor theater. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, as well.

A Star Wars film screening in the Sunshine City

The series kicks off on Saturday, May 4 with a showing of Star Wars: A New Hope, beginning at 9 pm to ensure a dark and cinematic atmosphere for the film that started one of the greatest movie series of all time. Launching the careers of everyone from George Lucas to Harrison Ford – and ushering in a new age of epic movies – Star Wars is the quintessential sci-fi flick.

On Saturday, May 11, the AX Outdoor Stage will host its second film of the series, screening Casablanca at 9 pm, the iconic war movie that became one of the first true blockbusters. Starring Humphrey Bogart, the Academy-Award-winning masterpiece remains one of the most quotable movies of the 20th century. Released in 1942, the black-and-white film is a journey to another time, filled with war, romance, and intrigue.

And finally, the American Classics Film Series concludes on May 18 with a showing of The Third Man at 9pm. The Orson Welles masterpiece remains one of the most highly-rated movies of all time, a noir mystery with romantic flair. While Casablanca the week before showcases the time of war, The Third Man transports us to the years after the conflict, set in post-war Vienna, Austria, as an American author sets out to solve the mystery of his murdered friend.
