I guess you could say this sourdough shop has outgrown its starter home. EDGE District loaf and sandwich star The Sourdough Co. announced that it will be moving to the historic Union Trust Bank building just down the road on Central Avenue.
The Sourdough Co. opened at its current location, 1113 Central Avenue, almost exactly three years ago. The bakery and eatery has grown a dedicated following in the years since, with lines forming on a near-daily basis for fresh loaves, baked goodies, and sandwiches made with fresh-sliced sourdough.

The move to the Union Trust Bank building, located at 895 Central Avenue, is a gigantic step for The Sourdough Co. in more ways than one. Namely, the space itself is huge, spanning nearly 11,000 square feet over three levels, including the mezzanine and the basement, complete with a walk-in bank vault. 2026 is actually the centennial for the original portion of the bank building, constructed in 1926.
2026 is also the 30th anniversary of the last time any business was open inside the building, and The Sourdough Co. has big plans to bring the space back to life.
“This new location will finally give us room to show you just how many wonderful things sourdough can make,” their team said in the announcement. “More room to bake. More room to create. More room for our team, our community and the ideas we’ve dreamed about since the beginning.”
And best of all: they promise the favorites from their menu are not just coming along for the ride, but staying at the same price. That’s something we can all get behind.
The Sourdough Co. team hasn’t shared specifics on what the new offerings will entail, but with a space that large, the options run deep. For several years, the building was undergoing an interior renovation to become J. Fiore’s Steakhouse. Those plans eventually fell through, which led to this opportunity for The Sourdough Co. to pick up the baton and work toward getting the doors open and welcoming the community back to the historic location.
The Sourdough Co. will remain open and operating as normal at its EDGE District location while construction on the new space gets it ready for operations. While some work had been done, there is still plenty left, and the Sourdough team intends to preserve history in the process. The vault may have the wow factor, but it’s easy to imagine the lengthy bar running down the west side of the building under the huge windows becoming a favorite local gathering spot.
“We have the honor of bringing this building back to life while protecting what makes it so special,” they said. “We’re preserving its beautiful windows, original brick and massive bank vault with deep respect for its history.”
