Today in time flying by: DeCosmo Italian Market is turning four years old, proving that the calendar moves faster than ever. The Pinellas Park shop and deli has become a star in those four years since its debut, beloved for its imported specialties and gargantuan sandwiches alike.
The cult favorite Italian market, located at 6832 49th Street N, is hosting a celebration appropriate for its wares this weekend, with all-day festivities taking place on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27. The schedule reads like a store transformed into a theme park for a day, with all the tastings and experiences you could ever want.

The party starts at 10 a.m. both days, running all the way until the store closes at 4 p.m. Everything is free to attend, and much of the extra experiences are free, as well. If nothing else, consider this your excuse to either make a return trip or to visit for the first time. If you’ve never had a DeCosmo sandwich before, that’s something we recommend adding to your list as soon as possible.
Three highlights will continue throughout the weekend. One of the most exciting is that every single food department of the store will be giving away free samples all day, each day. Meats, cheeses, breads, spices, desserts. You name it, you can try it.
Meanwhile, they will also be offering curated wine tastings throughout the celebration. Save that cheese sample and grab a little wine to pair with it. You’ll be hard pressed not to take home a full wheel and bottle, but your self control is up to you.
And finally, DeCosmo has the rare spectator sport taking place at a market. Each day at 1 p.m., the store is hosting a cannoli eating contest. It’s free to watch, though we recommend staying out of the splash zone. You can sign up on site if you’d like to participate in the fun.
There will also be gift basket giveaways throughout the weekend.
The biggest action comes on Sunday, when DeCosmo teams up with Turismo Coffee for its “Cars and Coffee Market,” featuring a full car show and specialty wine. Like everything else, it’s free to attend. And the sweet finish: there will be a zeppole truck serving up delicious fried Italian donuts.
We’ve said this already, but it’s worth repeating. DeCosmo has become a must-try experience in Pinellas County, and while it has certainly grown in popularity over the last four years, it has also retained that “if you know, you know” quality. For any food, wine, or Italy lover, DeCosmo is an absolute star.
