Sawgrass Teahouse first came about in Tarpon Springs. It operated there for almost seven years before making a move to the Burg’s bustling Grand Central District. The space, located at 2315 Central Avenue, quickly became a bastion for local music and art following its grand opening in January of 2015.

After issues with the landlord, however, Sawgrass was forced out. The 2300 Block of Central Avenue has a long history of tenant-landlord issues. While the community was sad to see Sawgrass leave Central Avenue, we knew its return to St. Pete was inevitable.

On December 23, St. Pete residents will be able to reacquaint themselves with Sawgrass Teahouse at their new space, which is located at 2436 Emerson Avenue South. The new location puts them near TruFire’s forthcoming recording studio, as well as the Duncan McClellan Gallery and Funktionhouse Urban Lumber.

This pre-opening preview will run from 11:59pm to 4am. House music will be played throughout the evening; however, musicians are invited to bring their instruments and amps to jam on stage. Comedians and poets are also invited to share their craft. This evening is dedicated to showcasing the character of the Burg and its arts community.

We’re ecstatic to see more local businesses — especially those that help showcase rising artists — bring their concepts to the south side of the Burg. Click HERE to learn more about the pre-opening event.
