There’s a brand new intimate cafe to try in the Grand Central District of St. Pete: Undergrounds Coffee (1701 Central Ave). The sleek cafe is locally-owned, and serves the pheonemal Hogg Batch barrel-aged roast, also made in the Grand Central District. I highly recommend the whiskey-barrel aged cold brew – it’s the ultimate early morning pick-me-up.
The shop’s list of artisanal lattes includes orange chamomile, cherry cardamom, blueberry cinnamon, and honeysuckle. Undergrounds also offers house-made chai lattes, and tasty match. Fresh juices are also a big part of the cafe; juice options include the Elevate, which is a mixture of blueberry, cucumber, kale and apple. A very tasty (and clutch) option is the abundance, a mixture of pineapple, spinach, aloe, and carrots.

Undergrounds is directly connected to a brand new gym, Journey Into Fitness. The owner, Thomas Pugh, is also a partner in the coffee shop. He’s a semi-retired engineer. In his partial retirement, he wanted to get back into working out, but rather than finding a gym, he decided to open one himself, he tells I Love the ‘Burg.
The thoughtfully curated space features free weights, squat racks, treadmills that directly face Central Avenue, multiple machines for chest, legs and back workouts, and a yoga studio. Learn more about Journey Into Fitness, and become a member by visiting its website and Facebook.
