A group of proven local restaurateurs are bringing their talents to Gulfport and opening a multi-faceted restaurant and bar in one of the city’s most desirable venues. Stormrunners Tavern is set to take over the former Caddy’s building at 3128 Beach Blvd S, bringing three different bars to the property.

Promising a comfortable and quirky charm to match Gulfport’s vibes, ownership says Stormrunners will offer “a well-varied menu featuring a heavy emphasis on affordable and familiar food menu items, cocktails, beers, and wines.” In addition to the walk-up ground floor bar, Stormrunners will also feature “The Crow’s Nest” on the open-air second floor overlooking the water, and an outdoor tiki bar called “BARk Gulfport” that will be a dog-friendly patio space.

As one would expect in Gulfport, Stormrunners plans to make live music a central part of its experience, regularly showcasing local artists. The Crow’s Nest at Stormrunners is the only elevated, second-story seating area in Gulfport.

The team behind Stormrunners Tavern has an impressive CV of local hospitality experience. Dave Burton has operated some of the Tampa Bay Area’s most popular restaurants for 14 years (including Soho Sushi and GenX Tavern). His partners on this new venture include Dog Bar owner Fred Metzler, as well as Ian Taylor and Joey Frasco who are on the ownership and management team at The Galley and The Ship’s Hold in downtown St. Pete.

Even the design will have a local touch, as api(+), a Tampa Bay-based design and architecture firm, is leading the design and branding of the multiple spaces. In early renderings, the “storm runners” theme is prevalent, showcasing Old Florida and nautical designs and inspiration.

Burton said the team is aiming for an early spring 2024 opening, with updates to the space beginning soon. Renderings show an almost complete re-design of the spacious property, bringing life to the marquee location in Gulfport. Located at the corner of Beach Blvd and Shore Blvd, Stormrunners has views of Boca Ciega Bay, situated near the historic Gulfport Casino and the public park and beach access.

“We’re excited to be a part of the Gulfport community and love the area and with so many awesome destinations already,” Burton said. “We can’t wait to help make Gulfport one of the most fun destinations in our region.”

As they look ahead to the opening, Burton said they are also in talks with a woman-owned distillery to open a distilling and retail space on the property, including a cocktail lounge showcasing their spirits. Stay tuned to I Love the Burg for more updates as Stormrunners Tavern nears its opening.
