St. Pete-Clearwater Airport (PIE) is an aviation and travel gem. The airport has broken its own passenger record for a fifth straight year.

In 2019, 2,288,692 passengers flew to/from 57 non-stop destinations. Overall, 2019 was up 2% over 2018, according to a release from PIE. December 2019 was a 12% increase over December 2018 with 196, 331 passengers and our biggest December in history.

PIE is ranked 90th out of 519 Commercial Service Airports in the U.S. in enplanements (Federal Aviation Administration). PIE consistently ranks amongst the lowest average round-trip airfare with PIE’s average fare at $127.85 compared to U.S. average fare of $345.09. For the 3rd quarter of 2019, PIE ranks 11th lowest in average airfare out of 420 airports (U.S. Department of Transportation).

PIE adds St. Pete icons to its roster

This isn’t the only bit of exciting news at PIE. St. Pete-Clearwater Airport is currently undergoing massive updates that will include the introduction of several new food and drink options. The most exciting addition has to be Mazzaro’s Market.

You’ll be able to find the local foodie icon at gates 7–11 post-security, this is in addition to the arrival of 3 Daughters Brewing at gates 2–6 post-security.

We might just book a flight so we can savor all of these St. Pete flavors in one hub. Plus, plane spotting is like our second favorite past time.

54 non-stop domestic flights

In addition, Dunkin Donuts will be added in Pre-Security and in the Departure Lounges at Gates 2–6. District Pub will be holding down the public pre-security restaurant space on the 2nd floor. As well as Market 361, a locally themed retail store, named for the average annual days of sunshine we have in Pinellas County.

“Adding the local flavor of Mazzaro’s and 3 Daughters Brewing is exciting for our local passengers,” said Airport Director Tom Jewsbury. “And will certainly create fans of our visiting passengers.”

PIE currently offers 54 non-stop domestic fights. Destinations include Albany, Asheville, Raleigh, Cincinnati, Memphis, Kansas City, and Grand Rapids.
