With the doldrums of summer upon us, we’re continuing to highlight some of the ways St. Petians can make the break in school even more enjoyable for their kids (while also getting them out of the house). Top on that list is Shorecrest Preparatory School, whose Summer at Shorecrest programming offers something for all ages and interests, no matter what school you attend.

Summer at Shorecrest offers a huge variety of exciting, enriching, and most importantly fun summer programs for students in preschool-12th grade. The lineup of offerings runs deep, featuring classic summer day camp, STEM camps, Performing and Visual Arts, Sports Clinics, Academic Enrichment/College Prep, and plenty more. Programs run weekly from June 5 – August 4. Parents and kids can view the full catalog and register at shorecrest.org/summer.

With extended day care, camps are available 8 am to 5:30 pm, June 5-August 4. And of course, it isn’t just limited to Shorecrest students. Each year, Summer at Shorecrest welcomes children from across the Tampa Bay Area to learn and play together, with nearly half of the campers coming from schools across Tampa Bay and even around the country.

Shorecrest celebrates a century in St. Pete

A longtime pillar of the community has turned 100 years old, as Shorecrest Preparatory School celebrated its centennial class this spring. The celebrated school has been a part of the fabric of St. Pete for a century, growing from humble roots into one of the area’s premier hubs for education, from early childhood through high school.

Appropriately, Shorecrest’s story matches that of the Sunshine City. From those quiet beginnings, the city and school have grown together side-by-side, and just as St. Pete has seen skyrocketing interest the last decade, so too has Shorecrest witnessed explosive growth of its own. With new buildings, expanded programs, and centers of learning that rival many universities, the school is at its peak as it celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Since its founding in 1923, Shorecrest has been committed to providing a superior education that nurtures the minds and hearts of its students. Over the years, the school has grown from a small, local institution to a nationally recognized independent school, known for its rigorous academic programs, dedicated faculty, and strong sense of community.

Shorecrest makes impact city-wide, nurturing future leaders

Of course, it’s not just the academics that make Shorecrest such an intrinsic part of the city. After all, only a portion St. Pete’s thousands of students actually take classes there. To expand its impact, Shorecrest also prioritizes character education and community service, as the school encourages its students to become active and engaged citizens. Through various community service programs and partnerships with local organizations, Shorecrest students spend the full calendar year giving back to the St. Petersburg community, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.

Even on premises, the majority of Shorecrest’s events, festivals, open houses and more are all open to the public. Most recently, the school’s annual St. Pete STEAMfest serves as a perfect example. The hands-on, interactive event is a full day of experiential learning opportunities geared toward children from ages 3-14, blending science, technology, engineering, art, and math. In addition to being free and open to any child in the area, the festival benefits the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, helping to feed the needy in St. Pete.

Through 100 years of that community-first mindset, Shorecrest has left its fingerprints on St. Pete, teaching and impacting a century’s worth of future leaders. Alongside its stellar academic programs, the school has cemented its legacy in the Burg.

The school’s rigorous curriculum, which includes advanced placement and signature programs in medical science, STEM and more, prepares students for success in college and beyond. Shorecrest’s graduates have gone on to attend top-tier colleges and universities, and many have pursued successful careers in various fields, making a positive impact on their communities and beyond.

The school has a strong commitment to inclusivity and diversity, as well, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for students, families, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds. Shorecrest’s emphasis on inclusivity and its efforts to promote diversity and equity have helped create an even more inclusive and harmonious St. Pete, where differences are celebrated and all members are valued and respected.
