Salty Nun opens in Grand Central, bringing big breakfasts and live music to St. Pete

Salty Nun opens in Grand Central, bringing big breakfasts and live music to St. Pete

Two of Gulfport’s most popular spots for food and drink have combined their talents to bring a new breakfast, brunch and bar concept to St. Pete. Salty Nun is a project from the minds behind Stella’s and Salty’s in Gulfport and is now open in the Grand Central District at 2501 Central Avenue, the former location of Swinger’s Patio Bar and Grill and The Queen’s Head Pub.

The restaurant officially opened this weekend with its full menu and bar, as well as live music. The brunch menu is available Wednesday-Sunday and includes a range of delights including a deep dish quiche, double stuffed french toast, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and pancake stacks.

From 3-9 pm, Salty Nun’s indulgent dinner menu offers a range of sandwiches and snacks. The fried green tomato BLT is an early favorite, along with fish and chips, blueberry chipotle pork sliders, stuffed jalapeños, bang bang shrimp, and massive plates of nachos.

In their announcement on Facebook, Salty Nun said the new restaurant and bar will bring Stella’s famous breakfast and brunch by day and Salty’s popular bar scene by night.

“We have combined the famous breakfast restaurant, Stella’s, and your favorite Gulfport local bar, Salty’s,” the descriptions reads. “Our venue includes a varietal breakfast menu, with highlighted Stella signature menu items, and a local bar with great drinks and live music!”

The return of Salty’s and extension of Stella’s makes for all day eats and fun

Stella’s southern-style comfort breakfast and lunch with build-your-own omelets, pancakes, sandwiches and more is a staple in Gulfport, while the brunchy drink list has developed a cult following of its own thanks to Bloody Mary flights and mimosa flights. Bringing their daily brunch to Grand Central is a big addition to the dining scene in the district.

Salty’s is no longer open, though it was a popular bar for locals during its run in Gulfport. Like Salty’s, Salty Nun will have a full liquor bar and be open at night, as well, featuring regular live music. Seating at Salty Nun is both indoor and outdoor.

“Do you miss Salty’s? Love Stella’s?” Salty Nun’s Facebook asks. “Come down to Grand Central District where we are serving up FUN at the NUN!”
