Spring training ’24: Rays return to Port Charlotte, play first-ever Dominican games

Inside Tropicana Field

While the Tampa Bay Rays are in the thick of the 2023 season – and with the playoffs on the horizon – it’s never too early to look ahead to 2024. The Rays announced their 2024 spring training schedule, and avid fans will need to know all the details for the re-tooled preseason slate.

Between years of covid protocol followed by the disruption of Hurricane Ian, the Rays haven’t had a “normal” spring training in almost five years. While 2024 does have some fun wrinkles, it will mark more of a return to normal for the hometown team.

Most importantly, spring training games will return to Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte next year. After spending most of 2023 at The Trop (along with some time at Disney’s Wide World of Sports) it will be nice for the Rays to be back in their typical spring home. The first game of the schedule will be against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, February 24.

Additionally, the Rays will travel to the Dominican Republic for the first time in franchise history for two exhibition games against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10. These games will also mark the first time since 2020 that Major League teams play in the Dominican Republic. Sign us up for a quick flight to the Dominican in March.

All told, the Rays will play 13 total home games through the spring, with their final matchup at Tropicana Field on March 26 against the Detroit Tigers. Ticket information and game times will be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile, be sure to make it out to a game this season ($10 tickets are available for every home game) as the Rays once again find themselves in the thick of the postseason hunt.
