Rare Madonna Collection Up for Sale in the ‘Burg

Rare Madonna Collection Up for Sale in the ‘Burg

Driving down the boulevard
Thinking about a man I knew
He was like a father to me
Nothing in the world that he wouldn’t do
Taught me to respect myself
Said that we’re all made of flesh and blood
(Madonna, ‘In This Life’)

Martin Burgoyne, best friend, roommate, album artist and family to Madonna early on in her career left his parents with a menagerie of treasures and rarities when he passed away in 1986 after a long battle with AIDS. As originally reported by Tamara Lush of the Associated Press, it’s a find that goes back… way back. Before Madonna was having kids, adopting kids or had an Instagram account

After decades of harboring the collection that includes pieces by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Madonna and their son, the Burgoyne’s have decided to put it up for auction on February 9th at Myers Auction Gallery in St. Pete.

The collection is enveloped with the luminescent and excessive spirit of the 80’s. Some of the more nostalgic artworks include original sketches by Martin Burgoyne depicting a photo booth session with Madonna and an early illustration of her ‘Burning Up’ album cover.

Between the candid Polaroid’s revealing the odyssey of celebrity and artist and the minimalist sketches of albums bound to turn platinum, this is a time capsule of fame and friendship not to be missed.
