We love celebrating St. Pete success stories, and one of the Burg’s biggest companies also shines as an incredible example of what the city is capable of. Power Design, Inc., which is the largest private employer in the city, has been on an absolute hot streak lately, raking in an incredible string of national awards and honors.

The latest honor came just this week, as Power Design was named one of Energage’s 2024 Top Workplaces Culture Excellence National Award Winners. The awards put on by the HR technology and research company were created to celebrate employers of choice in the following categories: Compensation & Benefits, Innovation, Leadership, Purpose & Values, and Work-Life Flexibility.

Of those five categories, Power Design was one of only a handful out of thousands of companies surveyed that earned distinction and recognition in all categories. It’s quite an impressive achievement given the high level of competition and achievement required for the awards.

Top Workplaces awards are determined through a confidential, research-backed employee engagement survey, according to Energage. Participating companies are measured against the industry’s most comprehensive benchmarks, built upon more than 18 years of culture research spanning millions of employees across tens of thousands of organizations nationwide.

“Receiving recognition as a Top Workplaces award recipient is a definitive badge of distinction, underscoring a company’s commitment to prioritizing people-first cultures,” said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “These exceptional workplaces exceed the highest standards. Because the awards are grounded in genuine employee feedback, they serve as a source of immense pride for company leaders.”

Power Design continues hot streak of national awards

Just last summer, the National Design Build Contractor was named one of the top 20 workplaces in America in the annual Top 100 Workplaces USA list. Within just a few months of that high honor, Power Design racked up more than a dozen additional awards and honors, including six more “best workplace” recognitions.

The list of notables also includes high rankings for the company’s growth, production, and impact on cities across the country (including plenty in St. Pete). While there is much to celebrate – check out the full list below – one in particular stands out as significant recognition for the company.

For the third year in a row, Power Design was named to the prestigious MEP Giants list, recognition for their work in construction and the impact shaping skylines all over. Not only did Power Design make the prestigious list, but they also rose nine spots from last year, advancing from No. 71 to No. 62.

The list recognized Power Design’s team for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, lighting, and systems technologies engineering and design work. Just in the Tampa Bay Area, that work can be seen in recent completed projects like Ascent, 101 N. Meridian, and The Pendry. Power Design says the distinction is a reflection of their innovations in the field and commitment to quality.

“We’ve been strategically expanding our engineering and design services to not only be available during the preconstruction and VDC phase of a project, but also throughout the entire project lifecycle,” the company said in a blog post about the honor. “Whether it is increasing our SmartSpaces amenities offered in project packages, designing a first-in-the-state floor-by floor variable refrigerant flow (VRF) mechanical system, or effectively integrating energy opportunities into design services, Power Design makes the project’s constructability and feasibility a priority because we build what we engineer.”

As if all that wasn’t enough, there are still a dozen more distinctions to mention for the local powerhouse. It’s an impressive run for a company that got its start with three people huddled around a dining room table strewn with blueprints.
