This one is for the sugar addicts. The Pirate Candy Shop, which became an overnight sensation after opening in Hyde Park Village last year, announced that it is opening a new location in St. Pete this summer.
The opening is tentatively slated for June, with work on the new shop at 1614 Central Avenue close to finishing. Our sister site That’s So Tampa has satisfied its sweet tooth more than a few times since The Pirate Candy Shop opened back in the fall, and we imagine it will be popular with the St. Pete crowd, as well. The colorful store has a wide range of Swedish sweets, including Swedish sodas, chocolates, and all the gummies you could ever imagine. The early favorite is the BUBS candy – Swedish gummies available in sour and fruity flavors that are a hit with all ages. Of note for ingredient-conscious eaters: BUBS candies are 100% vegan, crafted without gelatin or animal-derived ingredients.
Once open, the shop will be packed to the brim with Swedish candy, and you can build your own bag or bucket to the point of overflowing. There are also pre-made bags ready to grab and go if you just want to trust the experts.
The Pirate Candy Shop has been operating as a pop-up in the Hyde Park Village space (though it may well become permanent), and the St. Pete location is a longer-term opening.
The store is a passion project between two international families. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because they’ve already been a hit at local markets since bringing their idea to life.
“Growing up on other continents of Earth, knowing the pleasure and taste of natural ingredients from true chocolate and candy is something we would like to share with friends and with the United States,” owners say.
