Maine lobster, meet the Florida gulf. Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls, which already has an outpost in Fort Myers, is now open at 501 1st Avenue North in downtown St. Pete, after celebrating its first day operation this Monday. To state the obvious, the northeast-based chain specializes in Maine lobster rolls, as well as the appropriate accoutrements.
The concept got its starts 20 years when founder Dan Beck was working as a buyer in the restaurant business and was sourcing fresh lobster from Maine. In 2014, he opened his first restaurant on his own, and now has grown into a brand with double-digit locations across the country.

St. Pete is Mason’s third Florida location, and the restaurant has a wide variety of options on the menu – nearly all of which involve that prized Maine lobster. In addition to the classic lobster roll, Mason’s offers more options like a lobster BLT roll, a lobster salad roll, a warm “Connecticut” lobster roll, a shrimp roll, and more.
In addition to sandwiches, the restaurant dishes up salad of the lobster, shrimp, and crab variety. Guests can also order lobster grilled cheese sandwiches, lobster mac and cheese, and crab rolls. As one could imagine, sides include lobster bisque, New England clam chowder, potato salad, and baskets of fries.
Mason’s also serves beer and wine, and offers a kid’s menu with Nathan’s hot dogs, grilled cheese, and mac and cheese.
