The Bucs may not have been in the Super Bowl (congrats, Chiefs) but a St. Pete local and former USF Football star was on the field for the Chiefs, and became the first Bull alum to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl in the school’s history. Marquez Valdes-Scantling (MVS) soaked it all in in the end zone to close out an overtime thriller in Vegas.

Valdes-Scantling simply posted, “Cashed Out,” on Instagram beneath a photo of himself, helmet cast aside, sitting down on the field covered in red and yellow confetti. Marquez is originally from St. Petersburg, and played college ball at NC State and USF Tampa before being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2018.

MVS recorded 3 receptions for 30 yards and 1 touchdown in the victory. Tampa itself is no stranger to major Super Bowls. Just a few years ago the Bucs won it at home at Raymond James Stadium – and the Tampa Sports Commission is currently campaigning hard to get another Super Bowl in town.

In a post-game interview with the NFL Network, MVS went on to say Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes now deserves to be in that upper echelon of quarterbacks along the likes of Tom Brady.

“We had a very special team that could battle through adversity,” said MVS when discussing the season-long arc of the Chiefs. “Now I’m just excited to go celebrate with the guys.”
