From Bachata to the Waltz, Happy Hoofers is DTSP’s new free dance night craze

The exterior of a building

Downtown St. Pete is already home to a thriving arts scene, craft cocktails, and the kind of unsolicited opinions about hot sauce that come with any walkable urban neighborhood. But now, on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, it’s also home to something new: a free, multi-style dance party where absolutely nobody is judging your footwork.

Happy Hoofers Dance Party kicked off June 9 at Green Light Lounge + Kitchen, the bar and venue that sits right next door to the beloved Green Light Cinema at 225 2nd Ave. N. in downtown St. Pete. And before you close this tab in a cold sweat, let’s be clear: no partner required, no experience required, and no cover charge. The only thing you’re spending is the cost of whatever drink you order while you try to remember what your feet are supposed to do. The next edition is on June 23 at 7 pm.

The dance card includes swing, cha-cha, rumba, bachata, merengue, waltz, and more. That’s a lineup so diverse it reads like a UN resolution, except this one actually has a good time attached to it. Whether you’re the sort of person who’s been secretly watching bachata tutorials at 11 pm or someone who firmly believes “the robot” still counts as a dance style, Happy Hoofers is built for you.

Green Light Lounge + Kitchen is already proving itself as one of DTSP’s more quietly excellent gathering spots. Since its official debut in January 2026 with a packed Jazz Librarians performance, the venue has been steadily building out a calendar of music, comedy, trivia, and live events. The kitchen turns out Hollywood-inspired eats with an Argentinian flair, and the whole space carries the kind of relaxed, community-minded energy that makes you want to stay awhile.

Happy Hoofers takes that community-first spirit and adds choreography. The dress code is casual, the vibe is welcoming, and the whole thing is free, which is a word that still means something in a city where parking alone can feel like a minor emotional crisis.

So grab a drink, lace up something comfortable, and head to 225 2nd Ave. N. Happy Hoofers runs every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Green Light Lounge + Kitchen in downtown St. Petersburg. No experience, no partner, no cover. Just music, movement, and the very real joy of a Tuesday night that actually delivers.
