One of St. Pete’s most impactful community projects is continuing the fight for digital equity in the city. Gadgets for Good is hosting an electronics donation drive on Saturday, January 6, from 10 am – 1 pm at the Foundation for Healthy St. Petersburg at 2333 34th Street South, where they will be accepting a wide variety of used or unused electronic gear.

Gadgets for Good, which was founded in 2019 at St. Petersburg College, repurposes unused electronic equipment to provide things like computers to those in need in the area. And for equipment that can’t be used, it is recycled and the parts are used to build and fix other equipment.

Donate your old, unused devices

Anyone who has extra or unneeded electronics around the house or office is encouraged to donate. Acceptable items include: computers, keyboards, mice, circuit boards, monitors (no CRT), printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, VHS players, CD players, stereos, telephones and cell phones, component parts, tablets, laptops, servers, UPS units and batteries, switchers and routers, mixed wires, peripherals, and audio/video equipment.

Essentially, anything with a cord except TVs can be given to help bridge the digital divide in St. Pete. Gadgets for Good is operated by Community Foundation Tampa Bay- CFTB, with assistance from several local organizations. The project falls under Digital Inclusion, a CFTB cross sector network comprised of 40+ community organizations focused on eliminating the digital equity gap through internet access, device distribution, and technical support and training.

If you can’t make the drive, Gadgets for Good has a permanent drop-off location: The Maritime and Defense Technology Hub, located at 50 8th Avenue SE and open for drop-offs Monday-Friday from 8 am – 5 pm.
