While many flock to the bustle of the beach, the locals know that the real gems are just over the other side of the Treasure Island causeway. Dead Bob’s (6717 Central Ave N), and its sister restaurant The Joint (7600-7630 34th Ave N), have been revered by locals since their inception nearly 10 years ago.
As soon as you step through the weathered doors of The Joint, you’re greeted by the lively chatter of elbow-to-elbow patrons sharing tales over drinks and massive burgers. The ambiance is truly “old Florida”, and reminiscent of a time before inflation was on all our minds, and the prices reflect this. Most meals are under $12, and a Tito’s + soda is just $5!

Dead Bob’s, a dive bar with 5-star food
“We’re a dive bar with great food,” touts The Joint’s co-owner Fran Balzano. And indeed, the menu at both restaurants is a testament to this statement. From the notorious burgers stacked high with toppings to a host of Italian and American classics, every dish is crafted with care and passion.
We had the distinct pleasure of trying The Joint’s newest regular menu addition, the blackened hogfish piccata, which was locally sourced, cooked to flakey perfection, and only $18!
They’ve also recently introduced brunch service Fridays through Sundays, from 8 am to 11 am., with hearty classics like chicken and waffles or savory breakfast burritos.
