In the U.S., the majority of all charitable giving happens from October through December. The average household in West Central Florida donates $1,126 to nonprofits each year, according to a new Giving in Florida report, meaning many people in our community already have a favorite nonprofit or cause.
Those who don’t yet have a favorite nonprofit could be easily overwhelmed by the options. There are thousands of worthy nonprofit organizations that serve important roles in our community, and it can be hard to decide which organizations should receive your gift.
Finding a local charity to support
The Community Foundation Tampa Bay maintains a Critical Needs List, which shows verified, local nonprofits with unbudgeted, unforeseen, and time-sensitive financial needs. These needs significantly interfere with the nonprofit’s ability to provide crucial services or present an imminent threat to the organization’s continued operations.
Without philanthropists’ support, these nonprofits may not be able to provide their normal services to our community. Learn about the nonprofits and their funding needs on the Community Foundation Tampa Bay’s Critical Needs List, which is a trusted and easy way to be a hero for a local nonprofit.
Donors can make a monetary contribution to their preferred nonprofit in any amount, from the full funding request to simply a portion of it. It’s an easy and safe way to support local nonprofits.
Ensuring nonprofits’ work can continue
Donors can also explore the list of 46 nonprofits who have received grants from the Community Foundation Tampa Bay’s annual Competitive Grants cycle to find a nonprofit working in their area of interest.
Learn about the funded projects based on the Community Foundation Tampa Bay five focus areas: community vibrancy, economic mobility, empowering women and girls, mental well-being, and positive education. While the grant is significant, many times the grant isn’t enough to sustain the project.
In many cases, the Community Foundation grant is the seed funding for the nonprofit’s new project or provides partial funding for the nonprofit’s project. Additional funding is needed for the project to continue. Donors can make a monetary contribution to their preferred nonprofit in any amount to support the project, or the nonprofit’s work in our community.
Multiplying funds for greater impact
Another way to support nonprofits is giving to a fund or endowment held at the Community Foundation Tampa Bay. Funds and endowments can support specific charities, or they can provide grants working to address a certain area of need, such as the arts or vulnerable populations.
With more than 2,000 nonprofit endowments and charitable funds held at Community Foundation Tampa Bay, almost every area of interest is represented. Donate to a fund or endowment and your funds will be combined with others’ donations to multiply the financial impact of your gift.
