First Sight Eye Care has become a local favorite for eyewear and vision needs

First Sight Eye Care has become a local favorite for eyewear and vision needs

Eye care in St. Pete has a stylish and fresh new look, thanks to a new star in the Grand Central District. First Sight Eye Care, which just opened at the end of 2022, has quickly become a local favorite (and our personal go-to), supporting the vision needs of locals in style and taking “the art of eye care” to new levels.

Located at 2126 1st Avenue South, you may have noticed First Sight by the beautiful “eye heart St. Pete” mural painted by Chad Mize, and that colorful greeting is symbolic of the experience inside the clinic.

While First Sight offers a professional atmosphere with state-of-the-art equipment, its vibe could be described more like a lounge. The First Sight team prides itself on creating a warm, welcoming and inviting atmosphere where you can feel comfortable with your care and your vision choices.

What you put in or in front of your eyes matters. When choosing frames, you’re picking what your face will look like every day. And when getting a contact lens prescription, you’re deciding what material and fit work best for you and your clarity day in and day out. Being at ease for those moments is kind of important, and our experience with the First Sight team has been more akin to being welcomed into someone’s home, rather than some of the cold and brusk environments at many clinics.

Of course, that’s only part of the experience. Another piece that sets First Sight apart is their attention to making sure those glasses you put on your face every day showcase the best of you. They’ve curated a stylish, eclectic and fashion-forward selection of frames that has something for everybody, and they do an excellent job of working with patients and guests to find the perfect pair (and make sure they fit perfectly, too).

First Sight says they feel that “frames are an opportunity to make a statement, to enhance your beauty, and to expose your true colors.” The goal, they believe, is to provide more than just great vision.

However, the vision care itself is more than worthy of discussion. The team behind First Sight has decades of experience in professional ocular care, and they put those skills to good use. Dr. Amanda Geary, an Optometrist who graduated from the prestigious Southern College of Optometry, is the former President of the Pinellas Optometric Association, where she served for six years.

Between Dr. Geary, Optician Matthew Pennel, and the Ophthalmic Technician staff, Tommy and Debi, the first Sight Team brings unparalleled expertise and hospitality to the neighborhood. In addition to helping find the perfect frames, their services include comprehensive vision and eye health exams, contact lens exams and fittings, medical eye care services (including emergencies such as scratches, foreign bodies, or other trauma), and pediatric eye care for the kiddos.

In fact, there is an excellent opportunity to meet the team coming up soon. First Sight is hosting an Open House Art Show on Friday, September 6 from 6-8 pm. The “First Friday at First Sight” open house is an excellent excuse to check out and try on new frames, though the big draw is the pop-up art show featuring six local artists. We also won’t say no to the free wine!
