On The Fly is a Ciccio Restaurant Group Food Hall featuring Better Byrd, Sweet Soul, and Taco Dirty. The casual concept combines the tropical sweetness of açaí bowls and plant-based soft serve with the savory ingenuity of Better Byrd’s irresistible fried chicken sandwiches.
Located at 4447 4th Street north, the resplendent restaurant has something for every palate and preference. The exterior of the restaurant is adorned with a gorgeous sky blue mural that wraps around the building. The food hall itself is equipped with a fairly expansive parking lot, and covered outdoor seating with lush plant life adding extra shade along the stretch of 4th Street North.

When you enter you’ll see several vendor stalls for Better Byrd, Taco Dirty, and Sweet Soul. You can order on your own via any of the digital terminals propped up by the registers. You may first lose yourself when gazing at the brilliantly colored soda frescas available. I personally recommend the dragonfruit flavor. The bright pink nectar is the perfect antidote to the summer heat.
Let’s move stall by stall and let you know what we ordered on our last visit.
A taste of the Islands with Better Byrd
We went with the Island Byrd Sandwich at Better Byrd. Fun fact: the fried chicken at Better Byrd is gluten-free! You really can’t go wrong with any of the sammie options on the menu, and there are spicy chicken sandwiches for the brave eaters out there.
The Island Byrd features buttermilk GF fried chicken with grilled pineapple, Swiss cheese, fresh jalapeño, arugula, and signature Cluck Sauce. The buns aren’t gluten-free, but the item is available on a gluten-free wrap.
For spice lovers, you need to get the Jalapeño Mac n Cheese. The side is made with elbow pasta tossed with their warm queso, shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon and diced jalapeño.
Taco Dirty builds the perfect bowl
Taco Dirty is pretty exquisite. While I love their tacos, it’s the hearty bowls that I’m after. If you want to DIY the bowl, just order the all in. This dish gives you two bases, two proteins, two veggies, two “Mexi-things”, and two sauces.
If you’d prefer to let the chef’s make the flavor selections, Taco Dirty has a list of signature bowls to choose from. My personal favorite is the Mexi Cali Bowl. The entree is made with Mexican spice rice, black beans, citrus chipotle chicken, lime jalapeño corn salad, shredded queso and choice of sauce.
Need tacos? Treat yourself to the Tres Taco Platter. It includes 3 tacos with 1 protein or veggie, 2 Mexi things and 1 sauce.
Dessert time with Sweet Soul
It’s in the name. Sweet Soul makes delicious fruit filled treats that are almost too pretty to eat. The signature at Sweet Soul is the Acai Bowl. This bowl features a base blend of acai, blueberry, banana, apple juice and agave. Diners get their choice of 3 sweets, 2 toppings, 1 drizzle and Maple Vanilla granola. I personally love adding mango, kiwi, honey, and almond butter to everything.
Everyone needs to indulge in a cup of Charcoal Ice Cream. Specifically the vanilla charcoal plant-based soft serve loaded with incredible peanut butter drizzle. It’s the summer, you need soft serve.
