Kahwa Coffee to close 3rd Street drive-thru, plans shipping container concept in St. Pete

Kahwa Coffee to close 3rd Street drive-thru, plans shipping container concept in St. Pete

News broke this week that Whole Foods may be moving in to the plaza currently occupied by Suncoast Fitness, Dollar General, and several other businesses along 38th Avenue North in St. Petersburg. It has come to our attention that this also includes Kahwa Coffee’s drive-thru location at 3901 3rd St N. The drive-thru is one of the brands most popular and trafficked locations.

If plans move forward, this would be Whole Foods very first location in St. Petersburg. Whole Foods have confirmed an active interest in St. Pete, and the landlord does intend to demo the space to make way for the store should the plans come to fruition.

Serving St. Petersburg for 15 years

Kahwa currently operates 15 locations throughout Tampa Bay, with new spots on the way in Dunedin and on 4th Street North in the Sunshine City.

Kahwa’s 3rd Street drive-thru could close in early summer as the landlord preps the parcel for demolition. The owners are actively seeking a new location on 38th Avenue North to replace the drive-thru.

Kahwa’s new drive-thru will be comprised of three refurbished shipping containers at 6623 4th Street North.

Find Kahwa inspired drinks at Urban Stillhouse

Kahwa was founded nearly 15 years ago by Raphael and Sarah Perrier in St. Pete, Florida. Since its inception, it has become an integral part of the coffee culture in St. Petersburg. In addition to operating 15 cafes, Kahwa also has a host of wholesale partners that find creative ways to serve up good coffee.

You can find Kahwa at St. Pete gems such as Urban Stillhouse, The Hollander Hotel, The Wooden Rooster, and The Bakery at Cassis.

In a region so defined by the proliferation of exceptional coffee shops, it is heartening to see the continued growth and development of Kahwa, a brew I’ve been drinking since I was a student at Eckerd in 2011, and became even more familiar with when I moved to the Old Northeast.

Partnerships with local bakers

Kahwa isn’t just about coffee. Most cafe’s feature a variety of baked goods to choose from, including waffles by Pop Goes the Waffle, and cookies from WeVegan Eats.
