The St. Pete community was saddened to learn that Fish Tales, a beloved waterfront gem at 1500 2nd Street South, would officially close its doors. While we’ll miss the restaurant that brought a bit of the Keys to the Sunshine City, future plans for the space have us hopeful.
A group of locals with serious history in the food industry, consisting of Mario Farias, Larry Munch and Jon La Budde, will open a dockside casual restaurant as early as this December. They’re joined by managing partners Pete Boland and Ian Taylor who many will know from The Galley downtown.

Rising industry stars look to revive waterfront gem
Farias describes the duo behind The Galley as rising stars in the restaurant industry, and says the visionaries will bring back old Florida charm in the super modern facility.
It’s place marina members and boaters alike will be able to hop off their vessel in board shorts and flip flops and enjoy a decent meal. While a specific menu hasn’t been crafted yet, Mario Farias offered few savory insights. Visitors can expect to enjoy Mr. Pibb braised ribs and hearty pulled pork nachos. There will also be a full bar, so you can sip on a cocktail while enjoying the stellar waterfront view.
Boat valet adds extra convenience to restaurant experience
Once open, the currently unnamed concept’s hours will be from 10am-10pm. The owners intend to have a boat valet for those looking to make a pit stop on an outing. Improvements at the Harborage Marina will expand the number of docks available for those looking to post up for the afternoon.
For the 700+ members of Harborage Marina, the restaurant will offer boxed to-go meals to take before a day out on the water.
Improvements to the space include a reconfigured bar, a new kitchen, seating for roughly 150 visitors and, of course, the tiki hut. There will also be space for regular live music performances. It’s set to be an ultra casual hangout that could become the next great staple in the St. Pete culinary and hangout scene.
