Local gem 15th St. Farm adds commercial kitchen, event space

There’s nothing quite like fresh, local produce, and that’s why 15th St. Farm is a gem in St. Pete. Now, the beloved urban farm and community resource is expanding, adding a commercial kitchen, event space, and “Grains to Bread Bakery.”

Located at 342 15th Street North, the 1/2-acre farm has already begun work on the new commercial space as it continues to raise money for the transformative project. With the new space, 15th St Farm will be able to expand its already fantastic offerings with cooking classes, specialty dinners, gardening classes, tours and much more. While the event space is already open now, progress on the kitchen and bakery remains underway, which will also include a wood-fired brick oven facing the event space.

The farm itself is open to produce shoppers on Wednesdays and weekends from 9 am – 2 pm, and their variety of veggies, fruits, flowers and other fresh goods is more than worth a visit. While offerings are of course seasonal, they run from A to Z based on what’s in-season. From carrots, broccoli and kale to papayas, mustard greens, collards and cauliflower, there’s something to inspire any at-home cook.

You can visit 15th St Farm any time during operating hours, and you can learn more about the expansion project on their GoFundMe page, where you can also sponsor bricks toward the project. The revenues generated by dinners, tours and classes fund the nonprofit mission by providing free outreach, gardening and wellness classes to less fortunate neighbors.

“This addition will enhance our current programs at the 15th St EcoFarm and 19 school gardens, where we are partnering with USF and the USDA to develop and implement novel gardening and nutrition classes,” the farm says. “Help us create this ‘Grains to Bread Bakery’ with a traditional wood-fired oven and a stone flour mill to bake flavorful specialty breads. Your generosity will fund the facilities for baking classes, apprenticeships, and baking summer camps, offset the ”Nature Deficit,” and help us understand the source of our food, the ecological importance of regenerative farming methods, and health from the land.”
