St. Pete’s Own Rachel Bennett up for James Beard Rising Star Chef of the Year

Rachel Bennett, the executive chef of The Library, is one of 23 semifinalists for the James Beard Foundation’s Restaurant and Chef Awards: Rising Star Chef for 2019.

The James Beard Foundation’s mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America’s food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone.

This list of 23 semifinalists will be narrowed down to five nominees per category and will be announced on March 27th.

Rachel Bennett started out at Bern’s Steakhouse shucking oysters and then worked up to executive sous chef at Oxford Exchange. Then she began working towards opening a restaurant as an executive chef that was similar to Oxford Exchange, but also completely individual.

The Library is a restaurant, located within Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner in a comforting and studious atmosphere.

Equally making Tampa Bay proud is veteran chef Jeannie Pierola of edison: food+drink lab in Tampa who is nominated for James Beard’s Best Chef: South category. She recently opened Swigamajig at the new Sparkman Wharf.
