The city of St. Petersburg found itself on national display this past weekend with the release of the feature film “The Throwback” in theaters across the country and on Amazon, Apple TV and Google Play.

The lighthearted comedy, starring Will Sasso and Justina Machado, was shot in various locations from downtown to the Don CeSar, and marks a significant moment for the  area’s growing appeal as a destination for filmmakers.

In a recent interview with ABC Action News, Lisa Dozois of the Visit St. Pete/Clearwater Film Commission highlighted the positive impact saying more and more filmmakers are picking Pinellas County to make their films.

In addition to showcasing the city’s versatility as a location, filming brings significant economic benefits in the form of services such as transportation, food and catering, security and local talent. The recent influx of film activity is proving to be a boon for the area, promising continued growth and visibility on the national and international stage.

‘The Throwback,’ follows an under-appreciated mom played by Justina Machado, who hits a breaking point, leading her to revert back to her carefree, college-age, party-girl persona.
