The Sidewalk Science Center invites downtown St. Pete residents to embark on an exciting journey through the cosmos. This interactive science experience pops up in cities like St. Pete, Sarasota, and beyond, allowing stargazers to explore the universe’s wonders. On January 17, visitors to North Straub Park will have the unique opportunity to experience Mars like never before.
“Join us for the Mars Festival!” the organizers invite. “Earth will pass directly between the Sun and Mars, creating a stunning celestial event known as the ‘opposition of Mars.’ During this time, Mars will rise just as the Sun sets, providing a perfect moment for viewing.”

In addition to Mars, skywatchers can enjoy a spectacular sight as Venus and Saturn align side-by-side in the western sky. For even more wonder, look up to spot Jupiter shining brightly overhead!
The event will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on both January 17 and 18 (Friday & Saturday).
This astronomical celebration is made possible through the generous support of the Asterion Foundation.
