SHINE Mural Festival partners with Artists for Oceans to create powerful public art

SHINE Mural Festival partners with Artists for Oceans to create powerful public art

SHINE Mural Festival is exciting, bold, inspiring, and some of the most fun you’ll have in the Burg. The organizers behind SHINE recognize the event’s reach and have partnered with the Pangeaseed Foundation to create a massive mural with an important message.

Artists for Oceans is a public art project that brings the oceans into the streets around the world. The group collaborates with some of today’s most renowned contemporary artists to create large-scale public murals that address pressing environmental issues the oceans are facing.

Portland based visual artist Blaine Fontana will bring his signature imagery to St. Petersburg, according to a post from SHINE Mural Festival on Facebook. Fontana will tackle a massive wall with fellow Portland artist Plastic Birdie.

Their mural will creatively highlight the Burg’s successful fisheries management system as part of the first mural project nationwide funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

That’s not the only way SHINE Mural Fest is going green. The Pangeaseed Foundation and Suncoast Surfrider are partnering up for an event called “Get Trashed” at North Shore Park.

This early morning beach clean will meet at the Vinoy Beach Volleyball Courts at 8am. The cleanup will run through 10am. Don’t forget to check out where will be a new ground mural on the North Shark Park Pier by the prolific Cecilia Lueza.

That’s not all that’s new with SHINE this year. BURN, a glassblowing and street art festival, will bring wild public works to Central Avenue on October 19. The ticketed event features general admission and VIP Krew tickets. Your Krew ticket grants you special access to live music performances, food samples, AND a full liquor bar.
