Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (1534 Mound St, Sarasota), celebrated as one of TIME’s greatest places, is embarking on an ambitious journey to further enhance its world-class offerings. Renowned for its Banyan tree oasis and unmatched living collections, Selby Gardens is set to begin Phase 2 of its three-phase master plan, with construction anticipated to start by late 2025.

Phase 1, completed in 2024, delivered over 188,000 square feet of new amenities and infrastructure upgrades. Phase 2 promises to elevate the visitor experience with a state-of-the-art Conservatory Complex, a Learning Pavilion, and expanded landscape features.

Selby Gardens raises 40.3 million for developments

Building on the success of Phase 1, Selby Gardens has raised an additional $40.3 million, bringing the total funds for its redevelopment to an impressive $103 million. These funds primarily stem from private philanthropy, with contributions from endowments further bolstering the campaign.

Co-Chair Gail Morganroth, MD, praised the community’s generosity: “We are absolutely thrilled to witness the incredible support from our community, which will inspire a wave of innovation and possibility for Selby Gardens.” Fellow Co-Chair Audrey Robbins echoed these sentiments, adding, “Together, we are forging a brighter future for Selby Gardens and Sarasota, and we can’t wait to see the remarkable changes that will unfold as a result.”

Phase 2 is expected to conclude in 2027, but visitors don’t have to wait to enjoy the garden’s splendor. Selby Gardens offers 45 acres of breathtaking bayfront landscapes, inviting guests to explore its epiphytic orchids, bromeliads, gesneriads, and Florida’s rich natural history.

Situated on Sarasota Bay, Selby Gardens’ downtown campus is the only botanical garden in the world dedicated to the study and display of air plants, cementing its status as a global treasure.
