“Running with the Rays 5K” arrives on Sunday, finishing on the Tropicana Field turf

The Tampa Bay Rays have announced their new “Running with the Rays 5K,” which is set to take place this Sunday, April 16 on the streets of St. Pete. This family fun run will also have a virtual companion in case you’re unable to make it out to downtown on race day. It begins outside Tropicana Field, proceeds down to Al Lang Stadium (home of the Tampa Bay Rowdies), and ends on the turf of Tropicana Field. A childhood dream come true for this blogger.

A portion of all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Rays Baseball Foundation and the Rowdies Soccer Fund.

Keeping with the family fun run atmosphere, walkers/joggers with strollers are invited to participate. Those using wheelchairs are also encouraged to participate.

Meanwhile, the next time you head to a Rays game, be on the lookout for these new concession items (sign us up for the footlong pretzel dog). And all season long, you can get into any Rays home game for $10, and sometimes even less. As always, the easiest and cheapest (read: free) way to get to Rays game is by using the PSTA SunRunner.
