Power Design, Inc. gathers 800+ toys for charity at annual holiday bash

As the year 2024 winds down, we love to celebrate the people, places and companies that made the year special, and few have more of an impact in the community every year than the city’s largest private employer, Power Design, Inc. The family-owned company put an exclamation mark its calendar year over the last week as it provided more than 800 toys to needy children, threw a holiday bash for the ages, and raised money for life-changing nonprofits.

Starting at the most local level, Power Design took part in the All Kids Wonderland at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, helping make Christmas special for hundreds of families in the area. The annual event provides a free “shopping” experience for parents and caregivers of young patients who are hospitalized, allowing them to choose donated toys (everything from stuffed animals to dolls to electronics to skateboards) for their little loved ones.

To make the holidays sweeter for these families, PDI made the toy drive for the All Kids Wonderland the focal point of their annual company holiday bash in St. Pete. As employees and their families joined the party, they combined to provide more than 800 toys for the charitable event.

Of course, the holiday parties at PDI have become the stuff of legends. This year’s rendition was no different, with happy parties zooming across the ice rink, building their s’mores, zooming down the massive slide, taking pictures with Santa, trying their hand at putt putt, and even hoping on for a ride on the bucking reindeer.

As you would expect with any Power Design party, supporting cherished nonprofits again took center stage. Power Design-sponsored pro golfer Wyndham Clark took the lead on putt putt, inviting PDI employees to challenge him on the course for a chance to win a donation from Power Design to Wyndham’s charity, the Play Big Foundation, which provides resources and stability for families affected by breast cancer.

“Winterfest 2024 was a celebration of everything that makes this time of year so special—togetherness, giving back, and creating memories that will last long after the holidays,” Power Design said in a blog post. “As we look ahead to the new year, we’re grateful for our amazing #PDIFamily and all the good we’re able to build, on and off the GRID.”

As for the work of the company itself, Power Design has grown into something of a one-stop-shop for construction developers. By specializing in so many different areas (a rarity in the field), Power Design helps streamline construction processes by doing the work of what typically requires multiple contractors.

Specifically, they focus on electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and systems technologies buildout for construction projects. That scope encompasses everything from the lighting in conference rooms to carbon filtration in parking garages, with all the fire alarms, bathrooms, and literal nuts and bolts in between.

Of course, while it’s their professional services that make them important to their clients and partners, it’s Power Design’s role in the community that makes it special to St. Pete. It’s a rarity in so many of Florida’s growing cities to have such a large company not only headquartered locally, but founded there. Power Design is entrenched as an economic driver for the individuals and families who actually live in St. Pete and the surrounding areas.
