Owned and operated by St. Pete locals Kelley and Adam Duff, Pizza Box will celebrate its 8-year anniversary this Sunday, April 28, 12pm-6pm. Planned festivities include a live DJ (Stephen Bowman), 5-dollar mimosas, 3-dollar Kromabachers and seasonal seltzers from Boulevard Brewing, and, of course, a specialty pizza is in the works: a bolognese pizza-pie. Pizza Box is located at 923 Central Ave. in The EDGE District.
Pizza Box has been standing-out with their take on classics, such as their supreme pizza: balsamic marinated mushrooms, caramelized onions (done low and slow over three hours with no added sugars), fire roasted red peppers, Boar’s Head pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, and house made sauce.

“Many of our workers are artists,” says Kelley. “Something we are very proud of.” And the creativity of the team clearly shows. Pizza Box slings crowd favorites like the Honey Boo Boo: herb whipped ricotta, shredded mozzarella, bacon, ‘roni, and their sweet and peppery hot-honey. Or else, if you please, the angry goat: hot-honey habaneros, buffalo wing sauce, crumbled goat cheese, and—well—you get the picture—it’s an angry goat.
Crusts made from an Italian born sourdough starter
Let’s not forget the dough here, folks. Pizza is about the crust. Pizza Box crusts are made from an Italian born sourdough starter that’s hundreds of years old. So when you buy a slice, you’re buying a tried and true test of time.
Pizza Box owners Adam and Kelley Duff opened Pizza Box dead broke, hoping their product would speak for itself. And it speaks. Kelley had to jump in and out of our interview to tend to a wave of customers. It was a hell of a DIY project, Kelley tells me, explaining the inception of Pizza Box. “We built everything ourselves—except the toilet and the A/C.”
Serving the Sunshine City since 2016
Prior to opening Pizza Box, Adam Duff worked at various pizza places but really learned the nuances from a Sicilian chef named Sam. Putting their skills to the test, Adam and Kelley opened a pizza room within their friend’s renovated inn in Sitz William, New Hampshire, where Adam assembled his first modular woodfire pizza oven and developed his recipes and dough. They also learned, Kelley jokes, that a husband and wife can indeed run a successful business together.
When they returned to St. Pete, Adam and Kelley worked various restaurant jobs, saving money, until they opened Pizza Box in the Edge District of St. Pete in 2016. At I Love The Burg, we adore these types of success stories, and invite you to join in celebrating the restaurant’s 8-year anniversary.
