Local Film Commission Launches $20k Script Competition

The St. Pete – Clearwater Film Commission has worked exhaustively to bring film projects, both large and small, to our city. Most recently, the area was abuzz as both The Infiltrator and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children filmed scenes around the historic Don CeSar Hotel and the city of St. Pete Beach. Other films such as Spring Breakers, Dolphin Tale and Magic Mike have continued to bring the excitement of Hollywood to the Tampa Bay area.

In partnership with Stage 32, a networking/collaboration platform for those in the film industry, the St. Pete – Clearwater Film Commission has launched a short film script competition with a $20,000 production grant going to the winner. The winning writer and director will be flown to Florida, cast and crew the film using Stage 32, be mentored on set by Sundance Director JT Mollner and have the entire production professionally managed by production company Digital Caviar.

The winner's film will be featured at the 2017 Hollyshorts Film Festival, 2017 Richmond Film Festival and the 2017 Sunscreen Film Festival and an online global screening on the Stage 32 platform. To enter, write an original 7 to 10 page script that can be filmed in the Burg/Clearwater. Imagine our historic neighborhoods, gorgeous waterfront museums and theaters, our white sand beaches and tropical landscapes. All genre of story is accepted.

Entrants must be 18 years or older. There is no limit to the number of short screenplays an entrant can submit. Submissions ($30 fee) will be accepted through November 15. Click here to learn more/to submit your original work.
