Fore! Former Hofbrauhaus location to become a golf simulator lounge

Exterior of HofBrauhaus in downtown st pete

A question that has been asked for what feels like years now is finally getting an answer: what’s going on with the Hofbrauhaus? The historic building in downtown St. Pete, formerly home to the Hofbrauhaus, is set to become the newest location for a GolfSuites City Club, an indoor golf simulator lounge, bar and restaurant. The news was first reported by Breanne Williams of the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

Brandon, Florida-based GolfSuites announced the news today, describing the concept as “an upper-scale, partially membership-based version of indoor golf simulator lounge, offering finer dining, superior simulator technology, with 8 separate simulator lounges and up to 300+ indoor and outdoor seats for dining and beverage offerings.” The expected opening date is mid-2024.

Located at 123 4th Street South, the 17,000-square-foot building has been vacant since the closing of Hofbrauhaus, leaving a prime location unused for several years. The company is uniquely suited for the sports and entertainment concept, as GolfSuites President/COO Scott McCurry joined GolfSuites in 2019 after more than 24 years of experience in the industry, first with Macaroni Grill and then TopGolf where he helped oversee their national expansion.

The concept is similar in fashion to TopGolf, in terms of combining food and drink with the game of golf. Though this “City Suites” concept will be entirely virtual. Details are not out yet on exactly how, or if, the general public will be able to participate, but it appears there will be at least some room for non-members in the “partially membership-based” setup.

“Food and beverage offerings are planned to be indoor and outdoor all day long,” the release states. “Simulator hours will range from 6 AM until 11 AM for golf practice and instruction under the company’s Morning Pro offering, then noon to mid-afternoon for lunch, and then 4 or 5 PM until as late as 2 AM for dinner and after hours.”

The transaction was managed by Christine Walker of Realty One Group Sunshine in St. Pete, and the architect and design team is the Robert P. Resch, III, Architect firm from Clearwater.
