Design Team Releases New Images of Pier Approach

Design Team Releases New Images of Pier Approach

On March 17, Rogers Partners Architects+Urban Designers and ASD, the design team chosen to carry out the new Pier, unveiled more detailed plans of what the city can expect once the massive project is complete.

The in-depth presentation revealed plans for a welcome plaza, a boathhouse, a kayak launch point, a tilted lawn and splash pad, a transit hub and an education center. There will also be space at the furthest point for fishing, a bait shack, a water lounge and an event plaza.

The education center will cater to students young and old, and provide both with hands on learning experience.

Fishing and floating docks take advantage of St. Pete's scenic waterfront views. The area also features a small water lounge area for guests to unwind and cool off in.

A new pedestrian path brings the natural charm and glory of St. Pete's Boyd Hill downtown.

The pierhead building itself will feature an observation deck and an expansive outdoor green area which could serve as space for concerts and markets. The updated pierhead shifts off of the caissons and the observation deck shifts west. The change creates an opportunity for a fishing deck over caissons. The first floor will feature an outdoor patio and retail space and a tram stop in the back by the fishing deck. The second floor will feature a restaurant with a seating terrace. The top floor will feature a covered observation deck.

What these updates represent is an expanded transporation hub and an expanded education center. The new plans also detail Ken Smith Landscape Architect and Hunter Booth Design's exhaustive plant research. Plans also reveal space for a St. Pete bike share program.
