St. Pete’s pizza scene has a new rising star. Showcasing wood-fired pizza on wheels, Cipolla Rossa Pizzeria recently made its debut in St. Pete, and already the mobile pizza concept has become a hit. The mobile concept has been popping up at some of our favorite local events, most recently The Indie Flea at The Factory and a food truck rally at 3 Daughters Brewing.
We got our first taste of their fresh-baked pie over the weekend and came highly impressed. The crust was perfectly chewy with a light crunch from wood-fired oven, creating the perfect slice to hold up all the toppings. All pizzas are made by hand using fine organic flours and natural yeasts to produce incredible flavor and texture in the crust.
The family-run business specializes in sourdough pizzas, using made-from-scratch dough and fresh ingredients to ensure high quality in every bite. The massive wood-fired oven helps Cipolla Rossa create their signature Italian-style pizza, crafted with care and given the seal of approval by Momma Rossa.
Cipolla Rossa was founded by Josh Anson, who has spent decades honing his culinary skills, from studying at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America to working in some of the finest restaurants in New York City, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Miami and more. Cipolla Rossa has been a passion project for him for nearly 10 years, and he finally brought the concept to life in St. Pete and Tampa in late 2023.
While Anson may be new to the pizza game locally, he’s a proven veteran on the international circuit. In fact, Anson placed 11th in the world at the 2019 International Pizza Expo in Atlantic City, a feat he plans to not only match again one day, but hopefully top.
