Burg Bits: Coffee Bike, Electric Taxi Service Fuel Downtown Visitors

Coffee Bike Rides Downtown

The Tampa Bay area has its fair share of food trucks and pop-up food and drink carts. If it's one thing St. Pete residents love it's good coffee. For Hope Michaud, bringing local roast to downtown pedestrians and cyclists has been a dream. On Monday, June 13, Hope officially launched her business, The Coffee Bike. Her mobile coffee shop currently sets itself up on the corner of 5th Street and 2nd Avenue North.

She's serving Kahwa coffee, granola bars, fresh fruit, orange juice and an assortment of fresh muffins and pastries. The Coffee Bike will be outside serving Monday through Friday, from 7 to 11am. Follow The Coffee Bike on Instagram and Facebook for details about specials, new hours and locations.

Electric Taxis Operating Downtown

This new electric taxi service, SPRides, covers an area from 8th Avenue Southeast to 37th Avenue North, between 20th Street and Bayshore Drive. The cars can fit up to 9 passengars. Riders can book instant rides, schedule a pick up time and even set up recurring pick up and drop off times throughout the month when commuting for work or a longer event downtown.

Rides cost $5 per person and can be paid with cash or credit card. Hours of operation are 8am to midnight, seven days a week. Vehicles can also be rented for private events. The service offers 2-for-1 happy hour pricing Wednesday through Friday, from 4 to 7pm.

The service is 100% privately funded, an important factor for SPRides founders Jim Shatz and Bill Edwards. “St. Pete continues to grow by leaps and bounds, and the need for a shuttle service was becoming evident,” said Edwards.  “Other cities are spending $500,000-$600,000 of taxpayer dollars to start these services, but we did it ourselves, using private money. It’s by far the most fun and convenient way to get around town.”

“We look forward to serving our community with this green initiative with reliable and affordable micro transportation,” added Shatz. For details on rides you can call the service at 727.471.6100, or visit their website
