The best new restaurants that opened in St. Pete in 2021

Forgive us for stating the obvious, but 2021 was a little weird. Maybe a lot weird, if we’re being honest. The world was in peril, the world was saved, the world was in peril again, and then maybe it was going to be okay again. And that was just an average Thursday.

But despite all the craziness, 2021 also brought St. Pete an absurd amount of great new places to eat and drink, adding more and more bright spots to the Sunshine City. It’s hard to keep up with all of them – even we lose track – so we thought we’d put together a list of some of the highlights among all the new restaurants that opened in the last year.

While we certainly have respect for New Year’s Resolutions that involve dieting or going out less, we like of the idea of restaurant bucket list a little more. It’s always fun to try something new, and there’s no shortage of options in the ‘Burg. So take a look through all these new restaurants and find some splurge-worthy meals and date night inspirations for 2022.

  • Dirty Laundry – Speakeasy bar with craft cocktails and bites by night, and neighborhood café with fresh coffee and pastries by day.
  • Fo’Cheezy Twisted Meltz – Grilled cheese paradise with deliciously gooey and inventive sandwiches and sides.
  • Freya’s Diner – Vegan restaurant with salads and sandwiches made from locally-sourced products.
  • Gateway Subs – Artisan sandwiches and salads, as well as drip and cold brew coffee and event catering.
  • Happy’s Ice Cream – Inventive ice cream with long list of permanent and rotating flavors, as well as boozy ice cream, milkshakes and five different cone styles.
