Bed and Breakfasts have always been a great, less formal way to vacay, and downtown St. Pete has a few that are as special as our city.
Au Revoir Chateau France, Bonjour Watergarden
The building that used to house the critically acclaimed Chateau France restaurant is now a pretty Watergarden Inn at the Bay; a turn-of-the-century bed and breakfast modernized for the needs of today’s travelers. The inn, at 126 4th Avenue NE, mixes new styles with old and has a lot of local flair.

“We want to make sure they know they’re in Florida,” owner Bill Witt says. “Some guests have said they feel like they’re staying at their own private oasis.”
Rock ‘n Bed & Breakfast Getting Ready to Roll
When Brett Bruns heard that the former owner of Jannus Landing was selling his collection of signed guitars, he moved quickly to keep the collection in the Burg. He bought them all, then proceeded to pick up pieces of a few other local landmarks. When the awnings came down at the Grayl’s hotel, Brett snapped them up, salvaging as well as the bar and a lot of wood trim from the historic hotel.
Last Sunday, June 24th, Bruns also announced a casting call for a reality show to be set within the confines of the 9-bedroom B’nB called "The Artist." 8 women which he describes as "model-type" will be hired to live there and compete for the affection of an unnamed international pop/hip-hop music artist/fashion show producer. Question is where this reality show would be airing.
All these elements are being brought together in the rockin’est B’nB in the Burg, on 121 5th Ave N, where each room has a different rock ‘n roll theme–shown in the video below. Stay tuned–the Rock ‘n Roll B’nB plans to open in the near future.
The Mansion House and the Ponce de Leon
St. Pete’s Mansion House, for years was a very popular bed and breakfast at 105 5th Ave. NE, went into foreclosure with the downturn, and both buildings ended up on the auction block.
The houses were snapped up for a tidy $640,000 on May 29th, according to Pinellas Property Appraiser website, by Bakrac Inc.
Savni Bakrac also owns the Ponce de Leon Hotel, which houses that ever popular purveyor of tapas, Ceviche and Pincho y Pincho. Inquiring minds are curious as to what his plans are for the old B’nB…keep it or build on it? If you know of anything, email us at info@iLovetheBurg.com for tips!
