Don’t tell Yogi Bear, but St. Pete’s downtown waterfront is about to be packed full of picnic baskets. The Waterfront Parks Foundation announced it plans to set the World’s Longest Picnic Blanket Record this Saturday, November 18 in Flora Wylie Park.
The sprawling, family-friendly celebration takes place from 3-6 pm, and the public is invited to purchase tickets now. Each $40 ticket includes admission for four, complete with a large souvenir blanket for family and friends. Guests can bring their picnic basket, purchase a special charcuterie picnic box from Lolita’s Wine Market (available at the time of ticket purchase), or choose from among food trucks at the park. All proceeds will support the work of the Waterfront Parks Foundation.

WPF Logan DeViciente said the event will fill the waterfront park with “winding, continuous rows of colorful picnic blankets” alongside games, food trucks, live music, professional storytellers, a magician, and educational activities. Flora Wylie Park is located just north of Vinoy Park and North Shore Park, running along North Shore Drive NE at 1400 N Shore Drive NE.
The world record-setting event is a fundraiser for WPF, which works year-round to support, beautify and improve St. Pete’s many beautiful waterfront parks. For 11 years, the Waterfront Parks Foundation has worked to preserve, protect, and promote St. Petersburg’s magnificent, award-winning waterfront parks system in partnership with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.
The Foundation, together with the unwavering support of the Majeed Foundation, continues to beautify the parks with rotating flower beds, add new “dark sky” lighting, hold numerous park clean-ups, and develop and install multiple park swings and benches for the enjoyment of all. Local donations, volunteer engagement, and community feedback are vital to preserving our waterfront parks.
