Cult favorite Gateway Subs opens South Pasadena location

A sandwich and chips

Gateway Subs, which celebrates its one-year anniversary this November, has become an under-the-radar star in Historic Kenwood over the last 12 months. Now, the fantastic sandwich shop is opening a second location in South Pasadena at 2525 Pasadena Avenue South.

The new store officially soft opens today, October 27, and will establish its full-time hours after its grand opening on November 8. For now, the new store is open from 10 am – 4 pm on the weekends of October 27-30 and November 3-6.

Gateway Subs earned its following through its massive and creative sub sandwiches, along with their penchant for topping their artisan sandwiches with crushed kettle chips (which we highly recommend). The store also dishes up great salads, vegan shakes, and coffee.

Stars of the menu at the Kenwood location, 3112 3rd Ave N, include their Spicy Italian, the Salad Sammy, and the Big Beach which comes stuffed with roast beef, ham, turkey, provolone, lettuce, onion, tomato and mayo. And of course, diners are welcome to build their own sandwiches using any of the many ingredients and toppings available.

Our go-to is The Brycer, a multi-napkin experience of a fresh hoagie roll piled with buffalo chicken, buffalo chicken salad, provolone, hot and sweet peppers, crumbled jalapeno chips, spicy ranch, and hot garlic buffalo sauce. Open from 8:30 am – 7 pm Tuesday-Sunday, Gateway Subs also offers croissant sandwiches for breakfast. See the full restaurant menu here.

As an independently-owned local business, Gateway Subs sticks to its ethos of making good food for good people, proudly stating “we are epicureans who value good business and treat people as people.”
