Wandering Whisk has long been one of our favorite local Instagram accounts to follow. Owner Jen Jacobs’ dessert are works of pure food art, and it’s almost a shame to eat them. Alas, eat them we do.
Jacobs has operated her business from her apartment for the past four years. That’s all about to change this summer. Jacobs is opening a brick and mortar “boutique baking studio” on the border of Pinellas Park and St. Pete this summer.

She’ll be able to handle all of those colorful custom buttercream orders, and host special pop up baking events for residents who have a serious sweet tooth.

The studio will allow Jacobs to handle more orders; she’s currently turning down cake requests due to limited space in her kitchen, according to a video on her Kickstarter. The advent of Instagram has seen the local baking star bask in the national spotlight on the Food Network, too.

Now that all of the gears are in motion, the woman behind the whisk is reaching out to the Tampa Bay community to help offset the opening costs.

Jacobs has set a $20,000 goal. What’s it all for?
- Kitchen equipment: Convection oven, commercial fridge and freezer, Hobart mixer, sinks, prep tables, shelving, furniture
- Renovations: Flooring, painting, electrical work, plumbing, lighting, signage
- Architect, contractors, permits, insurance
- Help with overhead costs for the first year
There are rewards for different levels of donations, which includes: a box of her famous cookie sandwiches, 6″ and 8″ cakes, and even dessert at your doorstep.
