The Tampa Bay Rays have partnered with The Laundry Project to help residents affected by Hurricane Helene. This initiative offers free laundry services at Soapy’s Laundry, with support from Rays volunteers and local “hope dealers.”

On Wednesday, October 2, from 11am to 2pm, volunteers will assist with free laundry services at Soapy’s Laundry, located at 3435 15th Ave S.

The Laundry Project aims to ease the financial burden on families during these tough times. As detergent and other household essentials continue to rise in cost, clean laundry has become a financial challenge for many families. The organization highlights how clean clothes contribute to overall health and wellness.

Laundry Project has cleaned early 3 million pounds of laundry

Since its founding in 2008, The Laundry Project has cleaned over 2.9 million pounds of laundry—more than 1,437 tons—through 1,066 service projects across 20 states and 66 cities. Nearly 28,570 families have benefited from the initiative, which has partnered with 157 laundromats to wash nearly 296,150 loads of laundry.

In addition to this local effort, the Rays and Rowdies recently pledged $1 million toward Hurricane Helene relief and recovery. The teams committed to supporting community needs, with initial donations going to United Way Suncoast, Feeding Tampa Bay, the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce, and the City of St. Petersburg’s relief initiatives.
