WADA hosts an intimate evening of St. Pete politics and live jazz under the stars

The ArtsXchange theater at night

In an artistic sense, jazz and politics share a common ground, and an upcoming event in St. Pete this November blends the two beautifully. The Warehouse Arts District Association is hosting Jazz & Politics: Harmony and Discourse on Sunday, November 3, from 6-8 pm at 515 22nd Street South, St. Petersburg.

This inspiring evening combines a discussion on local politics with a live performance celebrating one of jazz’s legendary names, Duke Ellington. The night begins with a forum featuring St. Pete City Council District 7 candidates Wengay “Newt” Newton and Corey Givens Jr., followed by a live outdoor performance of Ellington classics by the Encore IV Big Band.

Tickets for this evening of art and civic engagement are available now, priced at $15 for general admission and $10 for WADA members. The candidate forum kicks off at 6 pm in the Tully-Levine Gallery, and Encore IV Big Band takes the AX Outdoor Stage at 7 pm, playing Duke Ellington favorites under the stars.

During the forum, Newton and Givens, candidates for District 7, will respond to audience questions and share their visions for the neighborhood and St. Pete’s future. With the city on the brink of significant change, this election cycle is a pivotal moment, making this forum a valuable opportunity to learn more about the candidates’ plans.

All St. Pete voters will see the District 7 candidates on their ballot, underscoring the importance of this event for residents citywide. It’s a rare opportunity to meet and interact with the candidates just ahead of election day, adding depth to their visions for our beloved city.

Encore IV Big Band is one of the area’s premier jazz ensembles, known for its unforgettable performances. The AX Outdoor Stage offers an intimate setting for an evening that promises to be a memorable experience for jazz lovers and St. Pete locals alike.
