St. Pete’s new brewpub offers up some of the city’s best wings and bar bites

The interior of a bar

It’s only fitting that the grand space formerly home to one of St. Pete’s historic cafeterias is now one of the best casual dining and drinks spots in downtown – featuring what may be the best wings in downtown St. Pete. Voodoo Brewing Co., which recently opened after much anticipation at 220 4th Street North, has quickly earned rave reviews not just for its popular beers and cocktails, but for the elevated pub fare being produced by the talented team in the kitchen, including huge burgers, wild pizzas, and much more.

Famous as the former home of the historic Orange Blossom Cafeteria, the Mediterranean Revival building now home to Voodoo turns 100 this year, and perhaps no concept could be more fitting for the grand space than this. With two floors of seating and games, a winding bar, outdoor seating and an open-air entrance, Voodoo Brewing has quickly become a community gathering space since opening its doors in the final months of 2024.

One of the pleasant surprises, at least for us, has been the excellent eats being served up at Voodoo. On our first visit, we were just excited to try the new beers (we had been eyeing the Lacto Kooler for some time). But after ordering the first round, we took a look at the food offerings and discovered something a bit more unexpected: this was an ambitious menu, particularly by brewery standards.

A new title contender for best wings in downtown St. Pete

To start, they have what may very well be the best wings in downtown, which is a high bar to meet. House-smoked and tossed in your choice of house-made sauces, these are wings worth leaving the house for. Their soft, doughy and fresh-baked pub pretzel is as big as a small child, and the house-made mustard it’s served with is one of the best dipping sauces we’ve had anywhere. Voodoo even has a full menu of various beer mussels, for the seafood-inclined.

Moving onto the mains, the sizable pizzas have become a fast favorite (the dill pickle pie is stunner for the pickle fans in the audience). They also have a nice mix of healthy options (salads, chickpea burgers, or the pressed turkey BLT) as well as the more indulgent eats, such as the “Chicky Chicky Bang Bang” fried chicken sandwich or the Tortilla Burger overflowing with pepperjack cheese, jalapenos, cheddar, and house-fried tortilla strips.

Don’t get us wrong, pairing a great food truck with a local brewery is one of our favorite ways to spend an afternoon, but it’s nice to see a brewery providing the full restaurant experience with table service and an enjoyable in-house menu. Plus, they have a full bar with some excellent signature cocktails, and they’re family-friendly (including a kids menu) if you have children in tow.

Specials, regular events highlight the Voodoo experience

Our experiences so far have been on Saturday afternoons, but a glance at their specials and other offerings has us interested in coming back for more. They have daily brunch (and even rarer thing for a brewery), and the lunch specials are truly impressive. Monday-Friday from 11 am – 3 pm, you can pair a burger or order of wings with a beer of your choice for only $15, or pick any pizza and any brew for just $20. Considering the pizza can feed two people for lunch, it’s a hard deal to beat.

On Monday nights, all service industry folks receive 20% off their bill. Superstar Karaoke takes place every Tuesday at 7 pm. Team trivia takes over the taproom every Wednesday night at 7:30. And on Sunday nights, Emo Bingo helps you end the week on a fun note.

If all of that isn’t enough, we have to say that Voodoo is worth checking out just for the venue alone. If you haven’t been inside the space, it’s borderline cavernous – far more spacious than you would think from the outside. A spiraling staircase leads to a second floor full of pool, arcade games, and seating on the balcony overlooking the sprawling main floor bathed in sunlight. The lengthy bar offers plenty of space to belly up for watching football, while the dining area provides plenty of tables and has room for any size party. Or, snag a seat on the patio, do some people watching, and bask in the comfortable shade.

Check out the full bar and kitchen menus on their website here, and visit Voodoo Brewing Co. any day of the week for lunch, dinner, happy hour and everything in between.
