Urban Stillhouse, ArtsXchange host dinner and movie event this weekend commemorating 9/11

The ArtsXchange theater at night

Two St. Pete favorites are joining forces to host an amazing weekend of events honoring the heroes of 9/11. The Warehouse Arts District Association and Urban Stillhouse announced two days of events on Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10, hosted jointly at Urban Stillhouse and the ArtsXchange.

The first event is a ticketed dinner and movie on Saturday, starting with a full dinner and whiskey tasting at Urban Stillhouse, followed by a screening of the movie “12 Strong” at the ArtsXchange, and then closing with a Q&A with a Horse Soldier team member and Special Ops veteran. Urban Stillhouse, of course, was opened by the owners of American Freedom Distillery, whose celebrated Horse Soldier Bourbon is named for the members of their team who went into Afghanistan on horseback following the events of 9/11, and on whom the movie 12 Strong is based.

On Sunday, September 10, there will be a special ceremony surrounding the Rise Monument at the ArtsXchange at 10 am, followed by a “Flip The Script” panel at 11 am, both of which are free RSVP events. Moderated by Jack Royer of News Channel 8 WFLA, the panel will include Arturo Jimenez-Bacardi (USF Int Relations & Political Science), John Welch (Adjunct Professor SPC), Jerry Lavely (Horse Soldier Team Member/Veteran), and John Beggins (NYPD Ret.).

The dinner and tasting at Urban Stillhouse on Saturday promises to be an engaging and lively affair. Featuring a diverse menu including both classic and innovative options, guests can savor a relaxing culinary experience while they mingle and share stories with the Horse Soldier team, veterans, Special Ops, former Green Berets, and Navy Seals. After dinner and the movie will be the Q&A with Horse Soldier Team Member and LtCol USAF (Ret) Jerry Lavely, who was deployed in response to the events of 9/11. This opportunity will provide the audience with a chance to engage, ask questions, and gain insight into the real-life events that inspired the gripping story.

St. Pete's 9/11 Rise Memorial

The annual 9/11 ceremony on Sunday will pay tribute to the lives lost and heroes remembered, with a moving program including speeches by community leaders and Armed Forces personnel, color guard, the National Anthem, and an invocation. The 9/11 panel discussion will be uniquely led by the audience, allowing attendees to actively participate in the conversation by sharing personal reflections, asking questions, and engaging in a collective exploration of the impact and significance of the tragic events of September 11th.
